Design for Manufacture

Story

This is a two-part project.
In the first half, we created Jason, the foldable clothes storage. You fold your shirts over the metal bars and close it like an accordion.

Strategy

To create engineering drawings and to make a detailed instruction booklet for another team.
In the second half, they produce a batch of five Jason storages and we manufacture their product.

Meat Mate — Meat Cutting Guard

dfm_89

Part 2: We acted as manufacturers for another group’s designers. The product we made was a stainless steel hand guard for meat cutting.

Their design involved metal punching, filing, soldering and polishing, and turning acrylic. Working with new materials made us familiar with new processes.

We also supervised Aurora’s manufacture of Jason. Reacting to production difficulties, our design had to be partially simplified.
